In keeping with my interest of proving out a theory from one of the seminars I attended, I take the newborn pups on three or more car rides during their first ten days of life. It is said that by doing this, you can significatly imprint in a dog that cars are a good place and reduce the percentages of car sick dogs or car anxiety ridden dogs.
It does not look like they mind at all. :+)
Poor Albert still gets a little weak in the knees after a car ride :-( I think you started doing this after his litter had left the coop. We've taken several of the recommendations for how to help a dog get over being car sick, which have helped tremendously; he no longer hurls in the car (yay for me lol!), and he recovers very quickly, but he does hunker down on rides, and his expression just says "please let this be quick!" Betty, on the other hand, is all about the adventure in store :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, Betty is fabulous in the car. I have many that love car rides and a few that are not happy campers which is why I started doing this suggestion. I have had several of my girls be 'car shy' and know how discouraging it is to get them to overcome it. It can take a long time. So I think any bit that I can do here should be helpful. :+)
ReplyDeleteJust one more reason why those of us that find you consider ourselves so fortunate!
