It is a rainy, dismal day......so we donned our raincoats!

Brinkley's puppies were happy to have visitors this morning and right after they left, immediately went down for a nap.

They were still somewhat sleepy as I took pics of the ones who opened their eyes as I was setting up.  I have to do a breeding this afternoon and was hoping to get the six week pics up before I left - so here they are!

Ebony is a sweet female with average energy and who does not love that white chin? 4 & 1/4 lbs.

Red Male is mostly a calm pup who loves to be held. Just a smidgen under 5 lbs.

One of everyone's favorites, Purple girl is inquisitive, social and loves to be in the
middle of things - 4 & 3/4 lbs.

Really?? Pink Girl is photogenic, inquisitive, very social with a good dose of energy.
Loves life!  A little thing in a big package - 4 lbs.

Mr Orange Male is a 'middle of the road' pup.  Good energy, social and loving - 5 & 1/4 lbs.

Blue Male is a sensitive, sweet, cuddler kind of lil' guy. Weighs 4 & 1/4 lbs.

Green Male is the hefty one of this group.  Lots more to love is what I say.
A nice mix of curious and cuddles.  5 & 3/4 lbs.  Still sleepy.

Pics from our visitors today!

Brinkley's  guardians and extended family came today to enjoy puppy breathe.  This is so great for the puppies and Brinkley was very happy to see them.

Daisy found a willing lap and would have stayed there all day.

Cuddles and more cuddles!  Who enjoyed it more?

With all those smiles, I thought I might have to check pockets when they left.  Ha, ha.

Moving along towards the weaning stage! WEEK FIVE - BRINKLEY X EMMETT LITTER

This week, I look forward to the puppies eating more food when offered and drinking less from their momma.  I am hoping by the beginning of November, or earlier, Brinkley will be back with her family full time.  I know they miss her very much but are nice and close for visits!

We have had several visits and are looking forward to more now that the pups are bigger and learning that strange people have warm and gentle hands. For those who have not visited yet, please email me to schedule one!

This family is eager to become a guardian home for ADNE.  They are local with a big yard and love animals.  I am sure one of the pups from this litter will be very well cared for and happy to have two young ladies entertaining and training her.

Miss Purple weighs 4 1/2 pounds

Mister Orange weighs 4 1/2 pounds

Mister Green weighs slightly less than 5 pounds

Miss Pink weighs 3 1/2 pounds

Mister Red weighs 4 1/2 pounds

Miss Ebony weighs 3 3/4 pounds

Mister Blue weighs 3 3/4 pounds

As you can see, most of the pups are very similar in weights.  As in all litters, one will be the largest and one will be the smallest by the time they go home - that never seems to change.

All in all the pups are doing really well.  They are enjoying their romper room time and soon their pen will be expanded to include a little step ladder for them to explore on.

FOUR WEEKS! BRINKLEY X EMMETT PUPS!!!

I love the fourth week.  Pups are becoming little dogs and with that some things may frighten them initially but they are also learning to overcome those fears.  It takes some patience but all of them eventually figure it out.  To help with this, I put in different types of toys in their sleeping area for them to explore.  Sometimes it is a ball that makes sounds, or a large stuffed animal.  Other times, it is a toy that has rattles attached to it or even a kids toy that speaks!  All these items are intentionally placed to 'startle and recover'.  It helps build on their confidence level with new things.

There is more interest in the gruel and it will become welcomed in a big way by the end of the week.  I have included a small bowl of water in their pen to help them 'wet their lips' instead of needing Brinkley simply for thirst.

Today's pics are from 'the jungle' complete with a vicious leopard sporting a cute ID Flower 'collar'. :+)

Miss Pink is 3 pounds this week!  I believe she is thankful that Miss Leopard is her friend.

Miss Ebony weighs 3 1/4 pounds today and wants to be properly 'distanced' from her new friend.

Miss Purple is 3 1/2 pounds and is ready for a nap irregardless of Miss Leopard.

Mr. Green is a chunk (4 pounds) and not at all intimidated by Miss Leopard.

MR Orange is 3 1/4 pounds and would prefer to ignore Miss Leopard.

'Hey Miss Leopard, wanna hold my hand?' Mr. Red at 3 3/4 pounds.

'Did you say there is a LEOPARD behind me?'  Mr. Blue weighs 3 pounds.  :+)

Intro to gruel. Brinkley x Emmett Litter

Now that the pups are just about 3 1/2 weeks of age, time to bring on some 'soupy meals'!  Brinkley has been doing an outstanding job of feeding her crew but she needs some help!  I have started making some gruel to hopefully give Brinkley a break.

Morning and evening, I whip up a gruel with powdered canine milk, Gerber chicken baby food and Gerber Rice Cereal.  The pups are eager to taste it.  Here are a couple of pics.

Using their noses, they seek out the bowl.

Once finished, they lick each others faces for the crumbs. :+)

WEEK 3 - BRINKLEY X EMMETT LITTER

Week three is always full of development.  The pups are almost walking, well they walk but look like bumper cars...not quite walking in a straight line.  :+)

There has been a big jump in their weight gains as you can see by comparing their two week weights to the new numbers.  Brinkley is eating a lot but they eat up all her calories!  Soon, I will be providing the pups with a milk supplement to help ease the load on Brinkley.

Interesting enough, Brinkley comes up to the bedroom every night to sleep.  She likes everyone in the same room - human and furry friends.  She happily finds a spot on a rug and wakes me up each morning when she figures it is time for breakfast.

Now that the puppies have full use of their eyes and ears, I must be careful not to scare them with loud or intimidating noises - this is a very sensitive time in their development.  So I sweep instead of vacuuming and keep a 'calm' music video on 24 hours a day in their room.

They are beginning to use the potty area more and more each day.  Right now, the 'box' has a pee pad in it and I spray a clean one with a 'potty here' spray to help them 'smell' where they need to go.  It works very well.  In another week, I will have to make the potty area bigger and rearrange the room.  They grow a lot in a week.  :+)

Here are the THREE WEEK pics!

We have moved!

The pups are now located in the Puppy Room!  They like their new quarters and have adapted well.  Brinkley is happy to have more space with the benefit of sunshine.  Keeping them under my desk in the office offers protection, warmth and darkness which momma dogs appreciate as it replicates the  environment of what wild dogs do for protection of their young.

Brinkley likes being able to easily check on her babies and is totally comfortable with my other doodles meandering in the room to look at them.  Here are some pics.  :+)

Brinkley just had a big breakfast and is now happily nursing the pups.

Brinkley sneaks in a few 'ZZZZ's' as some pups linger for the 'last drop'.

Resting on the burlap 'couch' is a welcome change from her duties.

Bellies full, all embrace another nap.  :+)
