Chaplin. 1/16/11 - 8/11/11

The following post was done prior to my sweet Chap's early demise. I cannot take his sweet face, adorable prance and loving personality off my Annablog because he will always have a large piece of my heart. Chaplin was 5 days shy of 7 months.

Chaplin weighs a solid 18 lbs. and is 15 inches tall at 7 months old. He will be a true mini size and has excellent boning and structure. Chaplin is a wonderful combination of Miniature Poodle, Labrador and Spaniel genetics. Poodle genes gave him intelligence and a non-shedding coat; the Spaniel produced his silky curls and sturdy boning; and the sweet Labrador his gentle, endearing temperament. I hope you can understand why I am so 'over the moon' about this boy and am looking for a wonderful home for him.


I am so delighted with his confirmation. This shot shows his great top line and tail set. His legs are not short like some miniatures. They balance his body perfectly. A bonus - he loves the water!


I did comb him just before I took these pics and you can see the flow his coat has. Nary a hair came out of this boy - a true non shedding, curling fleece coat.


Chaplin's physical appearance appealed to me immediately. With his fabulous early test scores, I am beyond pleased. To find him the perfect local guardian home that has a fence and children would really be the icing on the cake. Chaplin is very friendly towards other doggies. He has not seen a cat yet, so I have no idea if he could live with one.

Let me tell you that little Chaplin is SUCH a dear! What a sweet personality and gentle manner. Chap loves to be with people and he loves to be patted.

Chaplin is your typical little dog with a big personality. He enjoys being with people, whether it be for a walk, watching you cook or taking a drive - he is a 'companion' through and through.

I continue to work with him on being left in a space that he can see you but not be in the same room with you. He gets vocal when you do this to him. I wait until he stops vocalizing and then allow him to come in and join me. I have to admit, that he does 'grumble' about the indignity of being physically separated and I can't help but smile.

Chaplin is a quick learner. Since I prefer that dogs not 'jump' on people, I am constantly working with him to not jump up. The rule here is that he receive no touches UNLESS he is sitting. Unfortunately for me, people cannot resist that adorable face and always say 'oh, I don't mind.'

He is a breeze to brush and his lovely soft, totally non-shedding coat is gorgeous. He is not a huge kisser, but does give kisses. Chap is great in the car.

This little guy likes other dogs as long as they don't physically abuse his small, but nicely built stature. He would do best in a home that has a stay at home parent; older kids that like to play nice or an older/younger couple who want a loving companion. He may be too much dog for very young, sensitive children that he can knock down. He would love another dog that is on the small side to befriend and snuggle with.

About Chaplin, our new mini stud..... updated pics and news

Officially named 'Shelby Avenue Charlie Chaplin', we prefer the call name of 'Chaplin'. I think it is pretty obvious why the name but for those too young to know of the real Charlie Chaplin, he was a mega star in the era of silent movies. He was a very small man that always wore a tux type suit of black with a white shirt and always a black top hat. A huge comedian of his time. This name just jumped at me when I saw this little boy. :+)

At 9 days old, his shiny, fleece coat is showing promise.











Three weeks old and all bright eyed and bushy-tailed.

The ears start perking up at 5 weeks. A good thing - as more air is allowed in and could prevent ear infections.











At six weeks, the quality of his fleece coat is quite evident.

At 18 weeks, Chap was prelim hip tested with great results - OFA prelim Excellent with a PennHIP score of 80% - a fabulous example of solid hips. Additionally, several of his direct littermates also scored with high marks which shows great strength in his lines.


This is Chap at 5 & 1/2 months. I just combed his non-shedding curls. He has a perfect topline with a nice tailset. At this time he weighs 16 & 1/4 lbs. and is 14 inches tall. Chaplin....I believe you are going to be a star in your own right!
