The long awaited Temperament Test was today and the pups did very, very well! They were quite good in my husband's truck in the crates (my car was not ready in time) but we did fine. Very little whining and no vomiting!! :+)
A new twist is that my trainer did not use our past facility but instead, redid her activity room in the lower level of her home and set up a training area there. It was so nice! I will not get her write ups until Sunday at best; but she was pleased with the pups' performances overall.
OVERVIEW: The room is set up with a variety of items. Some items are for tactile purposes (a metal cookie pan, a large crackly bag) to see if different textures might cause a pup to avoid stepping on it or will overcome their discomfort using treats. She also uses a Wobble Board which tips and moves. The singing Santa sometimes causes a reaction because it starts singing once the pup is very close or touches it. The point here is to see how long it takes for the pup to overcome the initial flee response and go back to investigate Santa. Lastly, there is a stuffed dog to see if the pups have an innate fear of something that looks like them (dog friendly). Then she does some prey drive, fetch, retrieval, sound sensitivity, patience and people affinity activities.
This photo with Red Collar indicates he is willing to sniff something he can't have. The lesson is 'can he move away from the item to show a willingness to be compliant when asked.' |
'stranger' friendly.
