WEEK THREE

SORRY FOR THE DELAY!  Still have family here and I was having some computer issues with the upgrades-thanks to my son for the help!  How I wish things could just stay the same!

Anyway, all seems to be working at the moment, so I will get these darling pups up!  First though, a few comments.  The pups see well now and react to movement, sound and smell.  We are now taking weights weekly rather than daily and they have had their first nail trim.  From this time forward, they will become more animated, play with each other as well as toys in their area and be a bit more curious.

Next Sunday and going forward, I will allow visitors - only two a day and only for a half hour.  They are still very young and fragile and new people, sounds and smells will concern them - so expect some pups to be 'not interested' in you.  Don't take offense, it will be their first experience with people other than myself.  :+)

Here are the pups:

As expected, they are growing well, eating great learning about touch and soft pats along with the intro to some small chew toys.

We have survived the crux of the holidays, still a couple of sons visiting and helping out.  It is nice to have the extra hands.  :+) I hope all of you are well.

An experiment.

As breeders, we are often looking for ways to improve.  An article by a fellow breeder talked about materials to use for very young puppies to minimize those little feet from slipping so much as they nurse or try to move.  We use pee pads, vet bed, rugs, blankets - all types of 'bedding' for their comfort as well as trying to prevent slipping. While shopping one day, I thought that maybe a product called 'no slip snow mats' might be worth a try.  At first, I thought they would be too rough on their skin, but the 'co co' fibers are not prickly like those fiber shoe brushes because they are woven.  They just provide a dry, porous surface.

Here is the result of my experiment.  It will take me a few days to see how the fiber mat works out but I immediately saw that their traction was greatly improved!  It is porous, so I do have a pee pad under the mat, but so far - so good! I imagine a shower every now and again will keep the mat clean and allowing it to dry naturally will prevent it from crumbling.  That is the next experiment - what kind of life span does it have?  Always looking for way to keep pups happy and healthy.  :+)

It was bound to happen.

Unfortunately, I will not be breeding Jonnie as expected.  Both her guardians have COVID and their children are now being checked for the infection.  They are tired but doing well overall.  It was my decision to skip this heat cycle and wait several months in hopes all will recover and they will no longer be in a contagious state.

I know many will be disappointed but there is no need to take unnecessary risks.

Because I must skip this pairing, I did want to offer this link:  http://davisdoodles.com/index.html  This breeder is in Georgia and will have puppies available before June for those that might want to contact them right away to get on her list.  This might be just the perfect solution for some of you.  Please, I have no way of knowing when my next girl may cycle, so if I were you, I would take advantage of this breeder's availability.  :+)

TWO WEEKS - A MILESTONE!

At two weeks of age, the pups can finally regulate their temperature.  They can move away or towards warmth as their body signals.  It is the very beginning of them moving from a neonate to a puppy.  Also, at this time, their eyes and ears begin to open.  Neither one is working at a 100% but each will improve as the days go by.

Being in the pup room is going super well.  I have more space, a better view, all my 'tools' are there and my feet have more space under my desk in the office!  :+)

Today's photo session is a signal to you that these babies will be on their way to you very soon.  I know it seems like you have a long time to wait, but between the holidays, it is going to creep up on you faster than you think!  Plan ahead!

Ruby is the only pup that has some white markings.

Eyes are open and soon they will see their surroundings much better.

Both Coal and Blue boys look very similar!

Goldie is a hefty female.

But Copper Boy is the heavyweight of this litter. What a big head!

Seems Opal likes this 'mailbox' :+)

Holly is the heaviest female at this time.

Pups were moved!

For many days, I have been consumed with getting Christmas preparations finished.  With family coming for the holidays, there was much to be done!

In the afternoon, I decided this snowstorm we were having today was not going to give up soon and snow clean up would not be done today but tomorrow.  This prompted me to prepare the pup room for the pups - a bit earlier than I normally do it, but an opportunity presented itself and I jumped on it.  :+)

They settled in very quickly without any complaints.  Even though the room has a radiant floor for warmth, I still kept the heat pad in the pup pool on low for comfort.  Now, they will not only enjoy the Vitamin D from the winter sun but will have a brighter room to view as their eyes slowly open and adjust to the light.  Tomorrow, I will attach some baby toys to the enclosure to add some color and to entice them to explore as they grow.

Elsie is providing plenty of milk for her babies and they are plump and happy.

All settled.

Elsie gave me her approval for the move.  :+)

ELSIE'S LITTER will be a full week of age tonight!

Elsie is a very attentive mommy and her seven pups are wiggly, healthy and nursing up a storm.  Although a solid 25 lbs, I find it amazing that she gobbles up a minimum of a pound and a half of food per day plus treats!  I thank God, I don't have a pick eater!!!  Hooray!

Each day, I weigh the pups and they are gaining nicely.  They are still way too young to have much of a personality yet but soon we will see that emerge.

Eyes and ears will not open until they are around 10 to 14 days old, so they are little 'moles' right now. (Much cuter, of course!)

Since it IS Christmas season, I made an attempt to have a somewhat holiday theme with their identification collars.  :+)

I hope this boy will have the perfect 'coal' nose at maturity.

An Opal's fire is always beautiful.

This Gold nugget would look lovely under a tree.

Who does not love the color of Holly?

Ruby's are always a welcome gift, don't you agree?

A 'Starry, Starry night sky' prompted Blue Boy's ID.

The glow and shine of Copper warm's everyone's heart.

Please note that new pics will be posted every Saturday.  As the pups get older and more animated, I sometimes will try to grab a pic mid week when possible.  Till next time, enjoy this wonderful season and keep admiring these 'gems'.  Ho, Ho, Ho!

The Elsie x Hobbs litter has arrived!

A couple days earlier than expected but all seven appear healthy and thriving.  Appears my vet over counted the number, he thought 8 but that is easy to do when you see a plate of 'spaghetti' on x-rays!  Those spines are intertwined like you cannot believe.  +). I, for one, am very happy and thankful for these lovely pups and I am sure Elsie is happy to feed one less.

Yesterday, Elsie was quite restless, just could not settle.  When on the couch with me, she just kept looking at me and pawing my lap.  When it was time to go to bed, all seemed normal.  The lights were out, I was snugging in bed but could not sleep.  I HAD to check on Elsie one more time.  Glad I did.  I could not find her in her normal spot, so went to check the whelping pool in my office - yup, there she was and she just had her first pup!  Needless to say, my 'spider sense' was spot on!  :+)

Here is how the rest of the night went:

  1. Female arrived at 11:31 pm, weighed 8 5/8 ounces.
  2. Female number two arrived at 11:55 pm, weighed 9 1/4 ounces.
  3. Female number three arrived at 12:12 am and weighed 81/4 ounces.
  4. First male arrived at 12:33 am and weighed 8 1/4 ounces.
  5. Number five pup was also a male and arrived at 12:55 am weighing 8 1/4 ounces.
  6. Another Female arrived at 1:30 am and weighed 9 5/8 ounces.
  7. Lastly, the third male came at 1:57 am and also weighed 9 5/8 ounces.
They are all nursing well and Elsie is so happy to have an 'unlimited' food supply.  She gobbles everything in sight and looks soooo satisfied.  With her belly so full with babies, she could only eat small portions at a time several times a day.  She is delighted to eat her full now.

I will be contacting the people on her list soon to see if there are any changes.

Welcome to ADNE little ones!

Ms. Elsie is quite proud of her lovely litter of apricot beauties.

Elsie has arrived here at ADNE! (ALL PUPS ARE SOLD)

We had our x-ray taken this afternoon and it shows about 8 puppies!  Elsie looks like 'the great pumpkin' at this time.  :+). ALL PUPS ARE SOLD!!!!!

She is staying very close to me as she is a bit unsure of the 'home girls' but is doing well.  They are done with their 'intro' sniffing and are now relaxing.  I expect Elsie will be snuggled next to me on the couch tonight as we watch tv.

Elsie was so good to lie down in front of our tree and 'smile'.

'Please', no more photos!

This is Elsie's second litter and she has a bellyful.  Her whelping date is 'around' December 8th, but any woman will tell you 'that is just a number' - Mother Nature determines the delivery date!  Stay tuned.

Thanksgiving was wonderful!

We were so blessed to have family to share it with.  Grandchildren enjoyed carving 'swords' with uncles and then playing with them; the dinner was wonderful and all was on time and general conversation was both engaging and spirited!  :+)

Now, it is time to go full speed ahead with our Christmas preparations!  Having one of our children still here provided extra hands to help with outdoor decorations and some more 'clean up' in our poultry business to put all the equipment away and clean up for our spring 2021 opening.  We are looking forward to the winter break.

Elsie's litter will be here in another week or so, so getting the house ready for the holiday is in full swing and I just may be done in time for her delivery - I can wish anyway!

As always, I look forward to the delightful surprises as each enters this world.  All are sold, so please don't think there is availability.  Those on her list know who they are and will be contacted when the delivery is done.

Please take the time to enjoy this wonderful time of the year.  Enjoy your families and be gracious to all. I know we will.  Ho, ho!

TODAY WAS THE LAST DAY FOR THE BRINKLEY X EMMETT LITTER HERE AT ADNE.

The puppy room is empty.  I will be cleaning it up and prepare it soon for Elsie's litter but not till  after Thanksgiving.  Elsie's litter is due in early December, so I will have a small reprieve from pup duties.  However, I need to recover from our Thanksgiving holiday with lots of family; engage in some Christmas shopping and think snow!  Lots to do before then.  No time to waste!

Hopefully, the pups will adjust to their new families after a few days and a routine will be established,  Remember to keep checking the Critical Periods as your pup matures and keep me informed of any concerns.

Bye babies!!  Try to be good 'most of the time'.  :+)

Reports from my Guardian Home for Phoebe have been delightful.  They are enjoying
her energy and social skills.  Phoebe might be learning some obedience too.  :+)

Rufus is a wiggly guy that will need lots of support.  Fortunately, this couple has both time
and patience to provide it.

Cooper, the Drama King.  What a character!  Full of mischief which I know Marie will
take in stride as John and Cooper bounce off each other.

Monty will love attention and some space. A little guy who will have
a big sister to show him the ropes.

Oh, the fun this couple will have with this lil charmer!
I can't wait to hear what the community says when they take her for a walk in her 'princess' harness!

I certainly hope Miss Mishka makes a good partner for her dad's profession.  Having a cutie
like her for some comfort would be a wonderful accomplishment.

Can I say 'Cuddle King'?  Mr. Black Jack LOVES to be held and snuggles right into you.
His eyes follow you everywhere.  :+)

Drama King???

All the pups are doing very well and healing, eating and playing.....but Cooper is in a league of his own.  Totally unhappy about having the nice, soft, cushy collars I made to be comfortable but dutiful in preventing pups from licking their surgery area.

Just look at this pic.  I could not resist taking this shot of Cooper because he was finally quiet and I wondered why.

Pups are back home and NOT happy!

I picked them up late this afternoon and gave them a small mouthful of food to keep their bellies settled than right around 7 o'clock gave them their normal meal.  Of course they were hungry but the anesthesia can really make them queasy if fed too much, too quickly.

I also put soft, lambswool collars on them to prevent licking of the surgical sites.  These collars are about 3 or 4 inches wide and have velcro so they are comfortable and gently prevent them from meddling with the incision.  Actually, Cooper was the worse and was constantly trying to lick his 'wound' and I decided that all of them should have them on -' misery loves company, right?

Tomorrow will be a new day and they will be happier.  I will let them out on the pavers but not the big play area until Saturday when they will be picked up.  I don't want them running around in a large area.  You should also prevent them from full out running for several days and NO BATHS for a week at minimum!

They all did fine at the vets but were very noisy when they awoke from the anesthesia.  They are a vocal group for sure!

Just thought I would update everyone.

GETTING READY FOR TOMORROW!

I will be dropping off the pups for their surgeries tomorrow morning so this evening, they all had baths.  They did very well in my kitchen sink complete with sprayer nozzle!  In about an hour, I will give them a big dinner because no food tomorrow morning as they must be on an empty stomach for the anesthesia.  I won't be picking them up until late afternoon and boy will they be hungry!  They do get a mouthful of food at the vets once the anesthesia wears off but are still quite anxious for more food.

While they are at the vets, I will clean up the room again and work on their booklets in preparation for the Saturday 11 am pick up for Riley, Monty and Cooper.  I have two more picking up later in the afternoon (Rufus and Mishka).  Phoebe will be going to her guardians on Friday.   And due to a 'vacation' glitch Black Jack will be going home on Sunday.   :+)  COVID can really mess schedules with regard to having a complete group pick up!  Gheesh!!

EYE EXAM TODAY!

Another trip to a vet office, this time in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to see my canine ophthalmologist.  For many, many years I have used both Drs. Clode or Cassotis to check the eyes of my litters at around 8 weeks or so.  Many breeders think I am foolish for this 'extra' expense but I feel it necessary and informative.

The pups continue to be good car riders - some initial whining but they settle quickly (10 minutes)?  Once there I set up my wagon and 'crate' and waited for the vet tech to take them inside.  Of course, while waiting, numerous people gravitated to my car to adore the pups.  They loved it.

This pic is of them in the back of my car waiting to begin our trip.  :+)

Who could resist???

BRINKLEY X EMMETT ASSIGNMENTS!

It has been an intense few days!  For the most part 6 of the 7 pups have been assigned, I am waiting for an updated report before placing the final candidate - hopefully soon!

The pups have so enjoyed this fabulous weather and so have I!  They are going to be so spoiled when the 'real' fall weather comes.  With their nice coats though, you don't have to worry.

This is my last Monday for pics, next weekend, all the pics will be of you holding your new puppy!  Can you believe that pick up day is on the horizon??

The cherubs:

MISHKA (Ebony) Beresin will be living in Massachusetts.

BLACK 'JACK' (Green) Morrisette will also be living in Massachusetts.

COOPER Kelleher (Orange) joins his siblings above in the same state.

'PHOEBE' RYE (Purple) will hopefully be joining the ADNE program and has a lovely
Guardian Family right here in my town!

MISS RILEY (Pink) will be joining Brian & Caryn in New Hampshire

RUFUS Petersen (Blue) will be in Massachusetts as well.

LORD MONTGOMERY Lewis aka 'Monty' (Red) will reside in Massachusetts.

From my emails, I do believe that the majority of you are all ready for your fur-baby, and if you are not, you had better get going!  :+) You will be very busy with your new puppy and it will take up most of your day.  Plan ahead and things will go more smoothly.  Expect your new companion to be 'a bit overwhelmed' in their new home with some whining and stress, let them adjust slowly.  Keep company to a minimum until the pup is settled in.  Don't overdo by meeting all the neighbors, family and local fur companions.  A bit each day is much better than a crowd oo-ing and ah-ing.  Think of how the pup feels. Give your fur baby time to acclimate.

If you have any questions about when we are meeting, etc. please send an email to me directly. I have it all on my calendar.  :+) Joyce

Temperament Testing today - Brinkley x Emmett Litter!

The pups have not been in a car traveling since they had their three 'imprinting' newborn rides.  As expected, there was a bunch of initial whining as we started on hour ride to my trainer.  After about 10 minutes or so, they all settled.

Once at the trainers, I set up my travel playpen and all the pups went in.  We started the training segment and whenever one of the pups in the playpen began to whine, the pup being tested would stop and 'answer'. Hmmm..., so we decided to put half of the pups back into the car (thank goodness it was a FANTASTIC DAY) and then I could keep the others placated as each was tested.

It went really well and I am happy to say that NONE of the pups showed any car sickness at all - no salivation, no vomiting and no wet muzzles.  Did they whine? Yes, but that goes away with repetition and confidence.

Tomorrow, we are on our way again to the vet for Health Certificates and their first vaccines.  I shall see if they still whine or 'remember' the fun time they had on their previous car ride.  :+)

This test shows willingness to go onto an unusual surface using treats. Orange Boy did it as my trainer lured him onto it - willingness to learn.

As you can see, Pink mastered this very quickly. For Pink 'Will work for treats!' :+)

A wobble board can be very scary but Green Boy has no issue with it 'wobbling'. Shows trust with a human.

Most pups get rather intimidated with a moving, singing Santa, but Purple Girl wanted to dance with it. A very confident girl, who thinks things through.

Ebony Girl was dying to play with the 'skunk tail' but waited patiently.  'Treats are good but toys and people are better.'

Red Boy was SO proud of himself as he retrieved the 'crinkly ball'. Likes to be very close to his people.

Blue Boy loved the stuffed dog and was willing to share treats with it. Enjoys retrieving, chasing toys and is very food motivated.  'Have food, will travel' kind of chap.
