WEEK TWO PICS OF CLARY X HOBBS!

The pups have been doing great!  So well, in fact, at my first opportunity I will be moving them to the Pup Room.  It is a very sunny place with lots of room for expansion.  Plus they will get exposure to our 'house' doodles and more kitchen noises.  The next couple of days will be cool for cleaning and rearranging and I look forward to getting them resettled and reclaim my 'foot space' under my desk! All eyes are now open and soon ears will follow.

Clary continues to do well and her appetite has increased which makes me smile.  Clary adored all the multiple little hands patting her during a weeklong visit with our five grand-children and was so sweet with all of them.  :+)

Marigold - 2 wks., 1 lb. 10 oz.

Indy - 2 wks., 1 lb., 10 oz.

Poppy - 2 wks., 1 lb., 12 oz.

Robin - 2 wks., 1 lb., 6 oz.

Eli - 2 wks., 1 lb. 8 oz.

Rudy - 2 wks., 1 lb., 9 oz.

Petunia - 2 wks., 1 lb., 10 oz.

Clary's pups have had an awesome first week!

Of course, I already posted that their vet check went really well.  Clary is a good momma and all are gaining weight and look like fat sausages!  Most are already a full pound!

Their eyes and ears will not open for a few more days, but they do scoot around the whelping pool.  The air conditioning is on and they are very comfortable.  :+)

Since it is SO warm outdoors, I decided to photograph them in my fruit bowl in the sun today.  Forgive me for not doing this yesterday, but we have our son and four grand-daughters visiting and it has been rather busy around here!  They are off on an adventure and I scrambled to get this done today.  Whew!

I am beginning to see some of their noses change and have a good idea who will be Caramel and who may be Apricot but need another week to finally assign the correct DNA color to those light colored pups.  Remember, you can always click on the pics to view them bigger!

A great check up for all!

This afternoon Clary and her pups went to my vet to be checked over and for the pups to have their dew claws removed.   This is a breeder's individual choice.  I prefer to remove them so they don't get caught up in scrub brush or nicked by groomers.  Other breeders do not because they are a stabilizing digit for agility, racing or 'rock' climbing.  Both camps have their reasons and I stated mine.

The pups received a thorough exam and are proclaimed in great condition and health.  Momma, Clary was also checked over and she has nice soft mammary glands, no fever or concerns.  In all, a great report.

This is also the pups' first car experience and there will be two more before they are ten days old.  I like to 'imprint' car rides in the hopes it will prevent car sickness or nausea for the future.  Most times, it works very well.

On a side note, Clary is doing very well.  She is a dedicated momma.  She has a bladder like a camel and I have to really encourage her to leave her babies to go potty!

Rudy is chocolate and white male and wears a Brown Collar.

Female - Poppy wears an Orange Collar.

Indigo - Male, firstborn and wears a Blue Collar.

Presenting the Clary x Hobbs Litter!

Seven little beauties arrived this afternoon.  For the past couple of days, I had been trying to teach Clary how to use the dogie door.  Today was the first time she actually used it to go out and potty! When I helped her get in, she marched right down the hall and climbed into the whelping pool and laid down.  Wasn't an hour later the first pup was born.  :+)

Here is the rundown.  Because it is summer and I love flowers, I decided to identify this litter with flower names.  I always like a bit of creativity.  :+)  No I am NOT naming them, just using some coding for each pup.

1. Indigo, named after the tall blue flower known as False Indigo.  Indy is a very handsome male and weighs 8 1/8 ounces.  His coat is an apricot and white Tuxedo pattern like his mom.  His collar is blue.  Born at 1:12 pm.
2. Petunia, named after those delightful purple trumpets in so many window boxes.  Petunia has some small white markings on her apricot color and is considered an Abstract. She weighs       9 1/2 ounces!  Her collar is purple.  Born at 1:50 pm. 
3. Robin as in Red Robin, can't think of spring or summer without these delightful birds!  Robin is a mirror image of his momma in a glossy coat pattern of black and white!  Robin weighs 7 1/2 ounces.  Obviously, Robin has a red collar.  Born at 2:05 pm.
4. Not to be outdone, Rudy is a chocolate & white version of Clary's pattern.  He is identified by the lovely Rudbeckia flower that has a tuft of brown in the flower's center.   Rudy weighs          8 5/8 ounces and has a brown collar.  He was born at 3:51 pm. If he had been a girl, I would have called her Becky.  :+)
5. Our second female is Poppy and wears an orange collar.  Poppy appears to be a solid apricot like her daddy but does have some white on her head.  She is a hefty girl at 9 5/8 ounces.  Born at 4:13 pm.
6. Eli is another apricot and white tuxedo.  He is the biggest male in the litter (9 3/4 oz) so equate him with the Elephant Ear plant, Eli for short.  :+). His collar is  black.  Born at 5:15 pm.
7. The last pup is the largest of the entire litter!  Marigold is a honker at 9 7/8 ounces and wears a yellow collar.  Marigold appears to be an apricot Abstract like her sis, Poppy.  Born at 6:05 pm.

Now, there is a possibility that any pups with the Apricot coloring may actually be 'Caramels'.  I will know that in a couple of weeks as Caramels have 'liver' colored nose pigment and Apricots have black pigment.  It is a small distinction but a necessary one for breeders to point out for proper coat color identification.

I always introduce any pregnant girl that comes for her maternity stay to my 'house girls' individually. I do this one on one in my fenced front yard.  Once done, all the 'ladies' come into the house as a group. lt went like clockwork and Clary is laying on the floor as I type perfectly comfortable.  :+)

Now we take it day by day until I see signs of an impending whelp (birth).  Will keep this AnnaBlog current!
