Black Doodle plans

First, I hope all of you had a fabulous THANKSGIVING.  We certainly did - very, very busy with our poultry business, company arriving and our grandkids but it was a blessed occasion with tons to eat, desserts galore, helpful hands and a 28 pound turkey enjoyed by our family.  And, we STILL have leftovers!!

A thought occurred to me that although we are on pins and needles awaiting for Phoebe's litter to arrive in early December, a thought strayed from my brain about upcoming litters.  My plan is to breed for a mostly black litter.  I would love to hear some thoughts from my followers about this.  It won't change my mind  -as my personal preference is a black doodle BUT I do like hearing why so many people prefer almost any other color BUT black!  Some reasons I have listened to:

  • #1 - Everyone tells me they can't see the ticks.  Hmmm... okay, but you sure can FEEL them. If you cuddle with your doodle in the evenings like we do, have your tick remover and a small jar nearby because you will find some.  Plus, the flea/tick collars work on all colors of doodles.
  • #2 - You can't see their eyes...neither can you see the eyes of Old English Sheepdogs, some Terriers, Afghans, Bergamasco, Chinese Crested, Komondor and Puli to name a few.  If there is too much hair over your doodle's eyes - trim it!!  :+)
  • Black dogs, in general, don't show up well in pictures.  OK, I give up on that one but...it truly depends on the photographer.  There are some amazing pics of black dogs done by great photographers.  I do agree, taking a family pic with your black pup/dog can be challenging but it is doable.  I am not a great photographer but I do use the tricks that are posted for all to try and implement by people that share the 'lighting tips'.  Just Google it!
If you have any information why YOU don't want a black doodle, please share because I would like to know the hesitation.  I still am planning a black pairing because very few breeders will even take a chance on having black pups and I simply don't understand the mechanics of this thought process.  So enlighten me!

Enjoy planning for the holiday season! Ho! Ho!

Having some glitches.

 Hello,

Can anyone who reads my AnnaBlog make a comment like 'Hello' so I know people can still read my posts?  Looking at breeding plans and want to be sure the AnnaBlog is working like it should.  A lot of 'bots' have been hitting my site for some odd reason!  Bah!  :+) Joyce

SUSTENANCE HERBS for your puppy!

A head's up to a wonderful source of holistic, herbal products that don't harm but boost your dog/puppy health!  Please check out this Herbalist and her products as it is a far better path to follow than traditional chemicals from your vet.

Case in point: In almost 20 years, I have never had one of my doodles get Lyme disease - I had some results called 'Exposure to Lyme'  (which just means your dog is producing antibodies to combat that nasty tick bite) but never diagnosed with Lyme disease.  Well, when Daisy didn't look 'normal' to me, I went to my vet to have her checked.  Did some blood and urine work and she was diagnosed with Lyme and put on Doxycycline.

Move forward...on Doxy for a few days and....excessive diarrhea, a common problem with the use of Doxy.  Vet suggests a bland diet (chicken & rice) and hold off the Doxy for a few days for recovery.  Hmmm..... so, won't the diarrhea come back when I start the Doxy again????  Did not like this protocol but needed to take care of the problem.

I contacted an Herbalist I knew from years back who I remembered started an herbal store to treat animals holistically - Joyce Belcher of Sustenance Herbs in Kittery, Maine.  Yup - she had just what Daisy needed Bor-L-Immune!  This product is great for BOTH humans and animals to prevent, treat & cure tick bites! Joyce, herself, had Lyme disease years back and treated herself with this product and VOILA!

This store has many products to protect and treat numerous issues if they occur with your dog or pup and I HIGHLY recommend that you check out her website.  Daisy is doing so much better and doing it without side effects.  I love using products from nature!

Holy Moly - Life is keeping us hopping!

For a number of years I have wanted to have the Locust tree in our pool area taken down - well, it happened on 6/6/21 and there is a huge mess to clean up!  We knew many of the branches would fall into the puppy pen, so all the equipment had to be removed and placed elsewhere and the small pup pen had to be taken down, etc.  It is a good thing we did because it looked like a tsunami went through it!  Our friend, who did the cutting, warned us of the mess so we knew what we were in for.  It will be cleared in a few more days.  I am anxious to get Brinkley's pups back into the small outdoor pen as they enjoy the space, sun and fresh air!

Then today, Clary began whelping around 8 am!  So, nothing got done outside but inside a new litter of darling tuxedos were born.  Pics coming at some point!

This past weekend is when my husband's poultry business began and unfortunately his 'dipping tank' fell apart so instead of helping with the branches and such, he will be reconstructing the water tank all week!  I AM thankful that whelping day was during the daytime; that Clary did a terrific job and is a good mommy and hubby and I can still manage all the drama and work a 'Homestead' entails.  God has blessed us with this life.  💓

REGARDING APPLICATIONS!

Although this has happened a few times, I feel the need to express my apologies for those who have submitted applications to me on their iPads/iphones.  Unfortunately, you need to use a computer to download my application.  If you use the other devices, more times than not, I will NOT receive it.

Fortunately, my IT person is working on this glitch but my advice to anyone wanting to send in an application for one of ADNE's pups, please use a computer!

Thank you.  :+)

Website changes.

Just to let all my readers know, ADNE's website will be undergoing some new reconstruction.  Unfortunately, I cannot keep 'current' on my website until then as my programs are now obsolete.  I can post here but not on my Home Page or any other page of my website.

I will be working with a technical person in early January and hope that by the end of that month, I will be functioning again.  For now, we cuddle with dad as he recovers.  :+)

Defining 'grateful'. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

Some of you might know but for those who don't, the week prior to Thanksgiving is a very busy one for us at The Tabor Homestead.  My husband's poultry business is chuck full of 'turkey growers' who need to provide their customers with a fresh bird for 'Gobbler Day'.  The phone rings off the hook and our driveway is chuck full of farmers delivering their feathered friends on one side and the other row of trucks and cars are picking up cleaned, packaged, fat turkeys on the other.  It is a busy time.

Fortunately, we have great workers and I provide them with a hardy meal to keep them fueled for the long, grueling days.  Yesterday is when our customers pick up the turkeys my husband raises and I am counting, labeling and organizing who gets which one based on requests - very similar to what I do with assigning puppies based on your application.  :+)

Happily, today begins our season of 'rest', so what am I grateful for?  Our tractor, who diligently did the job of cleaning up three dumpings of snow during our processing period and did not break down. All our customers who were patient, on time and in good humor.  Our workers who battled snow to get here; cleaned up our decks and pathways to keep things moving and still worked a grueling, long day.

It is during times of stress and hardship that you are the most grateful for people who are kind, patient, encouraging, diligent, cooperative and humorous.

Like Tom Turkey, we are truly stuffed with gratitude for another successful turkey season and we welcome the holiday festivities knowing the farm is now 'ready for it's winter nap'.

------------------------------------------

P. S.  Hopefully, the pitter patter of puppy feet may grace us at the end of December.  News on that front in about a week.

We may not have pups at the moment, but we are busy, busy!

Maintenance and upgrades are being worked on.  Our house is being repainted and hubby is busy making a new ramp that leads from the pup room to the outdoor playground.  It is time to pressure wash all the pavers and turf for the upcoming litter and to clean all the equipment.  It is nice to have this block of time to get these jobs done.

In the meantime, Daisy is doing great and getting more and more 'round'.  She will have her x-ray soon (week or so) and then it won't be long before pups are here!

Pregnant Daisy with one of our sweet grand-daughters.

Hubby hard at work replacing the old ramp.

Finally, enjoying some downtime. :+)

Right after all the pups were in their homes, our son and his family came to visit for a few days.  We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the chaos that four beautiful granddaughters bring.  Certainly exhausted as four girls 8 years and under are busy, busy, busy!  Thank goodness for our town's playground just up the road. Lots of fun going down slides with babes in my lap and playing chase with the tickle monster (our son).  A visit to the beach (brrrrrr... the water is freezing) but kids and Gramps did not care - they dunked!  Pennsylvania does not offer really fresh lobsters, so they were a must along with some great cheesecake.  A whirlwind for sure but great memories shared.  :+)

Daisy will be due with her babes around July 7th, so I have a bit of a break for three weeks or so.  Then 'all hands on deck' once again!  There is still availability in that litter if it ends up being as large as predicted.

I am not breeding anyone this fall or winter (new prospective breeding doodles not ready yet) so I will embrace my puppy break during the holiday season; however excited about welcoming Maine's summer season!

Wishing the current new owners fun times with their pups and a safe and enjoyable summer season.

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us....

We are looking forward to the holiday season! We hung our outdoor lights and ornaments and will soon begin decorating indoors as well.

The boxwood has been cut so I can make a wreath for our door and perhaps a kissing ball as well. I love this time of year.

I don't have enough doodles living with me, so I had to buy a lighted one for outdoor Christmas 'patrol'.

A pic of Charlotte 2-Step at 16 weeks old!

She is definitely a girl that loves the fall and pumpkin pie!

We are looking forward to her last litter of puppies for ADNE this winter.  A bittersweet moment for me. Charlotte is a sweet girl that embraces life to the fullest.  :+)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

Great visitors.

I have had two WONDERFUL families come to ADNE to visit my program and Labradoodles this week. It is always fabulous to meet potential future owners. It makes me feel so fortunate to have buyers who care about where their pup will come from and ask excellent questions regarding my reasons for doing 'this or that'. This shows me they are researching on the Internet, reading the AnnaBlog and willing to take the time to check out the facility that will hopefully provide them with a puppy.

It is my hope that my pregnant girls will have enough pups for them all! Thanks for visiting!

I would like to invite anyone that does not mind driving for a good cause to......

join me in Paws for a Purpose on Saturday, June 18th. I will be there with Daisy because I know how much of an impact donations like these make to the elderly who are so in need of support, food, company and a kind face.

I applaud my wonderful vets and staff at Broadview Animal Hospital for choosing all types of groups in need, not only animals.

The venue seems to be fun for all ages and food is available! So, join me and Broadview for a short morning walk with your best furry friend, games for the kids/adults and support those in need.

I hope to see you there!

PS - If you do intend to participate, please send me an email so I will look for you!  :+)

For a safe, holistic, well researched and proven FLEA AND TICK product, keep reading!

I highly suggest all of my customers try this product as an alternative to the toxic chemicals in traditional vet recommended collars, topicals or ingested pills. It smells great and works! I have purchased it for my doodles' coats, beds, rugs and furniture; as well as for outdoors in the play-yard and decks.

If this 'coupon' does not work for you, go to my FB page and use it from there. I think you will be very happy.

Mercola Pets just posted this very appropriate link about 'before getting your pet' - Please read!

I really like this company, not only for its very holistic and common sense approach to dogs, in general, but because it is very informative on so many subjects. This was a very timely posting - Copy and paste to your navigation bar:
