Black Doodle plans

First, I hope all of you had a fabulous THANKSGIVING.  We certainly did - very, very busy with our poultry business, company arriving and our grandkids but it was a blessed occasion with tons to eat, desserts galore, helpful hands and a 28 pound turkey enjoyed by our family.  And, we STILL have leftovers!!

A thought occurred to me that although we are on pins and needles awaiting for Phoebe's litter to arrive in early December, a thought strayed from my brain about upcoming litters.  My plan is to breed for a mostly black litter.  I would love to hear some thoughts from my followers about this.  It won't change my mind  -as my personal preference is a black doodle BUT I do like hearing why so many people prefer almost any other color BUT black!  Some reasons I have listened to:

  • #1 - Everyone tells me they can't see the ticks.  Hmmm... okay, but you sure can FEEL them. If you cuddle with your doodle in the evenings like we do, have your tick remover and a small jar nearby because you will find some.  Plus, the flea/tick collars work on all colors of doodles.
  • #2 - You can't see their eyes...neither can you see the eyes of Old English Sheepdogs, some Terriers, Afghans, Bergamasco, Chinese Crested, Komondor and Puli to name a few.  If there is too much hair over your doodle's eyes - trim it!!  :+)
  • Black dogs, in general, don't show up well in pictures.  OK, I give up on that one but...it truly depends on the photographer.  There are some amazing pics of black dogs done by great photographers.  I do agree, taking a family pic with your black pup/dog can be challenging but it is doable.  I am not a great photographer but I do use the tricks that are posted for all to try and implement by people that share the 'lighting tips'.  Just Google it!
If you have any information why YOU don't want a black doodle, please share because I would like to know the hesitation.  I still am planning a black pairing because very few breeders will even take a chance on having black pups and I simply don't understand the mechanics of this thought process.  So enlighten me!

Enjoy planning for the holiday season! Ho! Ho!

Phoebe is confirmed pregnant!

I have also scheduled an x-ray to confirm numbers for early December as an ultra sound is basically to say a 'pregnancy is happening'.

Phoebe looks great and is enjoying all the doting and 'extras' a pregnancy 'requires'.  :+)

Today PHOEBE & DIESEL had a date!

Everything went smoothly and I am hoping puppies will arrive in early December!  Possible 'Go Home' date is Feb. 10th right before Valentine's Day!!  Heck, they will be going home in time to enjoy some snow and then Spring will be right around the corner.  :+)

In about a month, Phoebe will have an Ultra Sound to confirm pregnancy and check on the development of the puppies.  Let's keep our fingers crossed for good news.

Preparations are underway for the Phoebe x Diesel mating!

I was just given notice that Phoebe is cycling and Diesel has been put on 'full alert' for his upcoming date.  Diesel is as excited as the applicants for their pups!

Keep checking here for updates!  Phoebe will have her first progesterone test (hormone levels) on Thursday, Oct. 5th to see where she is at.  Very exciting!!

Having some glitches.

 Hello,

Can anyone who reads my AnnaBlog make a comment like 'Hello' so I know people can still read my posts?  Looking at breeding plans and want to be sure the AnnaBlog is working like it should.  A lot of 'bots' have been hitting my site for some odd reason!  Bah!  :+) Joyce

The Bellamy x Duckie Litter have all gone home!

This morning, the last pup was picked up and on her way to her new home.  Typically, all pups leave at one time on the same day but this group did not follow the 'normal' pattern!  Of course, it being summer, so many plans are made way in advance and sometimes, we must flex, right?

This wonderful group of pups was so good and made me laugh so many times.  We all loved the visits and conversations and looked forward to the next. :+)

I will not be having any more litters until the spring of 2024, so this was the last group for the year.  Thank you to all who purchased these adorable pups, may your years be numerous and healthy with your sweet companion.  Never hesitate to contact me with questions.  Be well and be happy - you will be tired with your new addition, that is normal.  :+) Joyce

This family was a Guardian for my program for a few years.  Once dear Elsie was retired, a
request came in for a companion to join their home.  Louie (Green Collar) was the perfect
match to play with Elsie and entertain the family for many years.

Miss Pink - now known as Tillie, was the last pup to be picked up.  She had an extra three days
here at Annabelle Doodles and enjoyed playing with Winnie and our four
grand-daughters. She swam, chased kids, was introduced to a leash with each one taking turns 'walking' her and learned to self sooth herself when all the siblings left.  A real sweetheart.

A long trip was in store for Finnick (Lt. Blue Boy).  Hopefully, it went well.  It is tough to
be in a car with a pup that might whine for four hours!!  Finnick will be part of a
large family.  He has a lot to live up to with several adults and a teenager to enjoy his antics.

Another past Guardian couple decided this was the time to add a calm, gentle soul
to the household. Their adult ADNE Labradoodle, Georgie, should provide Miss Haley (Red Collar)
a great paw print to follow for good behavior.  We shall see.  :+)

Tiki (Yellow Collar) has a huge task before her.  Amy was hoping for a pup that might
become her Service/Assistant companion.  Lots of training is ahead for both but I
feel Tiki has the determination and intelligence to give it a whirl.
I look forward to hearing about her successes.

Jack (Navy Collar) also had a long trip to Virginia.  On top of that - a plethora of activity
by his family as they were settling an estate.  Jack had the envious placement of being with his mom, Bellamy, for a few days as packing and storing was in full swing.  I am sure Bellamy enjoyed
having her son's company during those extra days.  :+)

Another hot day and another swim for the pups!

The pups were panting and I thought...okay, let's go for another swim!  All the grandkids were already in the pool so why not add some pups to the mix???

Happy faces and cool pups, what could possibly be better???

What a fun time!

You try taking pics of five kiddos AND five pups - perfect it is not but it is sure fun trying!!! :+)
