Tate's pups went to the vets today!

They were WONDERFUL car riders!! Barely a peep was uttered and NO accidents or vomiting - WOW! I love when that happens.

Their stools were checked for parasites and were perfectly clear which makes me a very happy camper.

Beau, Haddie, Keefer, Gus and Barolo had a full exam by my vet and were declared in great condition and provided with a Health Certificate which you will get a copy of in your puppy packet.

Please note also that each pup was given a PARVO VIRUS AND DISTEMPER vaccine ONLY. When you take your pups for their contractual vet exam (within 7 days of you picking them up), it is for an 'look over' only - NO VACCINES at that exam as it is too early! Also, bring in a stool sample to check again for parasites.  Have your vet examine them and give the pup a treat and then leave. Their next set of vaccines will be at 12 weeks of age and that is the time for their next shot which should NOT have Corona Virus nor Lepto in it!  Keep it basic, one core group at a time, please!  Most vets will want to do the DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo and Parainfluenza at the 12 week and 16 week visit. Also, do not begin Heartworm meds at the same time as a vaccine is administered - wait at least 10 days for your pup's body to deal with the vaccine meds first, then you can begin with the Heartworm med. Don't overtax your pup's immune system.

Consider what this article states:

NEW PRINCIPLES OF IMMUNOLOGY:
Dogs and cats immune systems mature fully at 6 months. If a modified live virus vaccine is given after 6 months of age, it produces immunity, which is good for the life of the pet (ie: canine distemper, parvo, feline distemper). If another MLV vaccine is given a year later, the antibodies from the first vaccine neutralize the antigens of the second vaccine and there is little or no effect. The titer is not “boosted” nor are more memory cells induced.
Not only are annual boosters for parvo and distemper unnecessary, they subject the pet to potential risks of allergic reactions and immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia. There is no scientific documentation to back up label claims for annual administration of MLV vaccines.
Puppies receive antibodies through their mothers milk. This natural protection can last 8-14 weeks. Puppies & kittens should NOT be Vaccinated at LESS than 8 weeks. Maternal immunity will neutralize the vaccine and little protection (0-38%) will be produced.

Once the pups returned home, they were served their lunch and had some playtime.  A very good day for all!  :+)
